Then many years down the road it can be opened and shared when he/she is old enough to understand.

Housewarming Parties

Housewarming parties are great for many reasons. It could be a way of welcoming a homeowner to his or her new home. It could be a way for the homeowner to meet and get to know the new neighbors. But most importantly, it is a way of celebrating moving into a new house and starting a new life in it.

In housewarming parties, the main focus of the party is the house itself. It is a way of showing off the interior of the house and its features to those who may be curious about it. There is no need to plan parlor games or activities to amuse your guests. There is no need to prepare a menu for a sit-down meal. You do not even need to decorate or even to finish unpacking your things. All you need to do is to let your guests roam about freely in your house for the day. They will be too busy meeting your other guests and marveling about the beauty of your new house to even want to participate in games. Besides, games will only take their minds away from the house, and the purpose of a housewarming party is to show off the house.

Housewarming parties are casual affairs that are very easy to prepare. Just send out an invitation to your friends and family. Make sure that you include a map and detailed directions on how to get to your new place along with your invitation so that your guests will not get lost along the way. For your new neighbors, it would be best for you to go door to door so you can introduce yourself and personally issue the invitation to your housewarming party.

You do not have to decorate your house for your housewarming party, and it is not necessary for you to complete your unpacking. However, it would be to your best interest if you clean your house before the day of your housewarming party. You certainly would not want your neighbors to get the idea of you being a slob or what. Also, a touch of fresh flowers here and there would help create a homey atmosphere.

Feeding your guests should not be that much of a problem. Just prepare a set of dishes that your guests would be comfortable eating while walking around. Finger foods, naturally, are the best choice, along with a selection of beverages that your guests can choose from. Examples of finger foods are breadsticks, cookies, macaroons, snowbars, deviled eggs, and such. You can also serve alcoholic drinks if you want, or you can stick to soft drinks or lemonade.

Since you will be letting your guests tour the house during your housewarming party, you can do a little pretend game and act like you are a realtor or a guide at a museum. You can give your guests a little guided tour of the house. Or if you think that would be too much of a hassle for you, especially if you are going to open your house for an entire day, you can just create a floor map of the house that will serve as a guide for your guests.

Pool Party

Just had a lovely pool installed in your backyard? The best way to celebrate this new feature of your house – and to brag about the new pool to friends, family and neighbors – is to host a pool party.

Pool parties are often held during the summer, which is not surprising because most people are looking for excuses to cool down from the heat on that season. Since your guests will be looking for something to drive the heat away, you have to make sure that your pool party will be a cool place to be, at least for that designated time. You do not have to worry, though. With a little preparation, your pool party can become the talk of the neighborhood for the next few weeks.

Pool Party Invitations

No one is going to show up at your party if you do not invite people. Calling people or sending them emails to invite them may not be enough and your invites may forget. Thus, you have to be creative about your invitations – make them so your potential guests will not forget about your party.

One idea would be to print out your invitations on small blue sheets of paper. Do not forget to include the time and date of your party in your invitation, and always ask for an RSVP. Roll these sheets of paper and then insert them in small bottles. For an added measure of fun, put in some confetti or sand inside the bottle as well.

Decor and Props

While the main attraction that your party shall have is none other than your pool, doing a little decorating helps too. You can set up a few tiki lamps around the pool, especially when your party is going to last through the night. You can also arrange small tables covered each with a tablecloth with a summery pattern and topped with a flower arrangement of sunflowers, yellow daisies or yellow roses.

Make sure that there are enough chairs for your guests to sit in. You may have to designate a specific room in your house to be used as a changing room. Floats, beach balls and water guns may also be handy to have around during the party.

Parties must have music. You do not have to hire a DJ for your pool party. You can just burn two or three CDs with summery tracks, like the songs of the Beach Boys. If you think the Beach Boys is a little overused already, you can go for reggae or any other current dance hits. Be careful to match your music with the average age of your guests, though. Your music should be something that everyone will enjoy listening to and put them in a partying mood.

Food and Drinks

What is a party without food and drinks? The worst thing that can happen to a party is for guests to go hungry and thirsty. Since your party is going to be a pool party, it would not require a sit-down meal. So, finger foods and cocktail dishes would do. Kebabs, tortillas with salsa, small sandwiches, salads, shrimp cocktails, chicken and beef wraps, and fruit tarts would do well for your menu.

As for drinks, you would not go wrong with serving daiquiris, piсa coladas, margaritas and beer. Keep some sodas and fruit juices as well for those who do not want to drink alcohol.

Party Favors

So your guests would remember your party for weeks to come, you have to give out party favors as parting gifts. Your party favors can be anything that can fit with a beach theme, such as little bottles of cologne or sunscreen lotion, shell paperweights, shell jewelry or accessories for women, and other such items.

Luau Party Ideas

n summertime everyone takes the covers off of their barbecue grills and fires up some steaks, burgers, and hotdogs to celebrate in the sunshine. You, on the other hand, might want to do something a little more special. So why not have a luau-themed party right in your backyard? It will give everyone a chance to dress up and have a lot of fun.
Here are a few tricks to make your summer luau complete.

* Put up tiki torches around the party venue. Alternatively, you can string up some lanterns with tropical and festive designs to add some color and place some on the ground as well. Make sure you use citronella candles to keep the bugs away.
* You can set up a hammock a short distance away from where all the action is taking place.
* The buffet table can be decorated with grass table skirting.
* For each table, have a centerpiece made up of candles and flowers.
* Get plates with tropical patterns.
* You can rent a little dock or a pier to place at the entrance to your backyard with a big sign welcoming people to the luau. It also makes a perfect spot for pictures. You can position this makeshift pier near the swimming pool as well, if you have one.
* Float a couple of beach balls in your pool.

* You can play some summery pop tunes, or go classic with The Beach Boys.
* Go traditional with some Hawaiian or tropical music with plenty of steel drums and ukuleles.

* For a family party, go easy on the alcoholic beverages and stick with fruit cocktails. You can’t go wrong with mai tais, piсa coladas, and banana daiquiris. You can also serve lots of fresh fruit shakes, iced tea, and lemonade.
* Don’t skimp on the fruit. Have a fruit platter with mandarin oranges, orange slices, pineapple cubes, chopped bananas, grapes, and apples. You can also use these in a big fruit salad.
* For your meats, you can grill some kebabs and roast some chickens as well.
* Don’t forget the seafood. You can prepare some shrimp cocktails, grill salmon, and serve crabs and lobsters.

* Have the men come in Hawaiian shirts with bright prints and short while the women can put on grass skirts over their shorts.
* You could also make artificial leis for everyone to wear.

* Give little kids a chance to have fun and set up a small play area for them. This can have a small inflatable pool and a sandbox where they can build sandcastles.
* Start a conga line.
* A limbo contest will definitely get everyone going.
* You can hire a hula dance instructor for a couple of hours to give some quick and fun lessons to your willing guests.

Spa Party

verybody loves a little pampering now and then, so throwing a spa party would be something you and your friends or your family will definitely enjoy. It can also be done for any kind of occasion, whether you’re celebrating a birthday, a graduation, or a promotion, that’s why it’s something you should really consider as a way to celebrate.

You can check out the nearest day spa and find out whether they accommodate a large group of people and whether they offer any party packages. Make sure you find out what the rates are as well as the treatments and services included. You can also inquire about party additions and features.

If you want to throw a simpler party, have your own spa party at home. It will probably take some effort to make your home look like a quiet haven of relaxation, but it’s pretty easy to do. First of all, choose the place where you’ll be holding your spa party. It could be your living room, your bedroom, or some other place which can comfortably accommodate the number of people you’re inviting. Make sure the place you selected is free from clutter.

You can burn incense or peppermint oil in an oil burner to provide a relaxing atmosphere. One or two will be enough for this purpose, or you can also scatter scented candles all over.

As for the treatments and products, it’s all going to have to be a do-it-yourself session. You can put out nail care equipment, face masks, moisturizers, creams, or lotions, but you can also encourage your guests to bring ones that they’re most comfortable with. Maybe a foot spa.

Play soothing music in the background. Dim the lights and provide plenty of towels as well as pillows for people to relax with. For your party food, keep it light. Serve crackers and cheese, salad, a selection of cold cuts, and some iced tea or chilled fruit juices.

The fun part about a spa party is that it keeps everyone relaxed and laidback while enjoying beauty treatments at the same time. It’s also guaranteed to be a great bonding session with your guests.

Party Dresses

Party dresses are fun. Putting together a fabulous outfit to wear at a party is just as enjoyable as wearing it to the party itself, and sometimes even more. Party dresses are a great way to express yourself in a glamorous way and impress other people with how awesome you look.

It is not actually that hard to put together a fantastic party dress. Choosing the right party dress may seem difficult and tiresome to some people, especially those who do not go to parties that much. Typical worries about shopping for party dresses include getting a dress that is too simple or too showy for the occasion, getting a dress that looks wrong on you, or worse, getting a dress that is the exact same dress that another person at the party is wearing.

There is no real need to worry, though. With a few tips and tricks, you can get the party dress of your dreams without breaking a sweat.

The Party Occasion

There are a few questions that you have to ask yourself before buying party dresses, and the first set of questions would have to be these: For what occasion is the party going to be, and is it going to be a casual, a semi-formal or a formal event?

Answering these questions would help you pick a dress that is appropriate for the party you will be attending. If it is just a Sunday afternoon barbecue with the extended family, perhaps something simple and comfortable will do. If it is a Hawaiian luau that you will be attending, then you will need something fun, flirty and colorful. If it is a formal wedding reception, a ball gown may be in order.

Body Type, Size and Coloring

Once you have determined the occasion and the formality of the party, you would need to figure out your body type and size. As for body type, a woman can either be top-heavy (the chest are larger than the hips), bottom-heavy (the hips are wider than the chest), rectangular (no curves) or hourglass-shaped (very curvy). Some styles of party dresses favor certain body types. The important thing is that whatever style of the dress that you get is, this style should suit your body type and flatter your figure.

Size is another essential consideration in choosing a party dress. Needless to say, you have to get a dress that is just the right size for you. Wearing something that is too big may drown you while wearing something that is too small will hug your body and accentuate the features of your figure that you may want to hide instead of reveal. Either way, wearing a dress that is not your size is very uncomfortable.

You should also get a dress that suits your personal coloring. Blondes look great with pastels while darker-skinned women look better in dresses with jewel tones. Redheads look hideous in orange dresses, while women with light brown hair look like washouts in beige and pale yellow.

Alterations and Return Policies

There are times when the dress you bought is not actually right for you and you realized it only when you got home after the purchase. The same goes for when you have shopped for your party dress online. Such instances are unavoidable, but if the store you bought it from has a good return policy, it should not be that much of a problem.

Alterations may also be necessary to make sure that the dress you have is the perfect length and fit for you. Once you get your party dress, feel free to visit your local tailor to get your dress altered to suit you.

Poker Party Ideas

Because of the popularity of online poker rooms as well as the wide coverage given by sports channels such as ESPN to poker events like the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker Tournament, poker has become a common household name. What used to be a game played only in smoky backrooms is now played in living rooms, just like any regular parlor game.

But even without the wide media coverage and the popularity it has online, the simple fact is that poker, in all its variations, is a fun game to play. It is a game of wits and of skill. What better game to play among friends?

A great way to play poker with your friends is to arrange a poker party. A poker party is a simple affair to arrange and it does not require a lot of preparation. All you need to do is to call up a few friends, have them come over and then play.

How do you prepare for a poker party? First of all, find out the laws of the state and the city you are living in to see if it is legal for you to play poker with real money. If not, just play with chips. It is better to stay on the safe side of the law, because it would be a real bummer to end a party with the guests getting busted, and not because they have run out of chips to play with.

Once you have figured out if it is safe for you to play with real money or not, the next thing to do would be to set up your place for your poker party. Determine how many people are coming to your poker party and set your tables accordingly. The number of guests expected to show up will determine the number of tables you need to set up. One table is enough if there are only less than nine people coming. If there are more expected, you should have an extra table or two prepared.

Of course, you would need implements to play poker, as it is a poker party after all. You would need two decks of cards per table. Use only brand new decks. And then you would need chips and dealer’s buttons.

And because it is a party, you would need some food and drinks to serve your guests. You do not have to worry about cooking up a sit-down meal for this kind of party because it is all casual. All you need to do is to prepare different kinds of sandwiches and some finger foods. Also, stock your bar with some beer and other alcoholic drinks, as well as non-alcoholic drinks, fruit juices and soda.

At the time of the party, in case you have some guests who do not know how to play poker, it is better to have someone explain the rules of the game. It would even be better for these initiates to the game if you would run a few hands to demonstrate how the game is played.

One important thing to maintain during a poker party is to keep the stakes low. Otherwise, your guests would take the game too seriously, and then it would not be fun anymore.

Romantic Fantasies

Every person has their own romantic fantasies. Each fantasy has its own unique feeling, tone, and theme.
Some people have simple fantasies, yet others elaborate their romantic dreams with many sophisticated details. There is one thing in common with all romantic fantasies, however. It is desiring something that you don't already have in your life and that can only come true with a romantic partner.

Fantasies provide peace of mind and escape from the real world, and romantic fantasies in particluar serve as a vehicle to a more satisfying sex life. Fantasies put people in touch with their sensuality, while also allowing them to become more comfortable with themselves and their relationships.

Women tend to be more sensual and romantic, relying on soft lighting, scented candles and slow music to set the mood. When most women fantasize about making love, it is often with a focus on their current partner (though sometimes someone unattainable, famous, etc. may creep into the mind's eye.) Location and setting play important roles as well, and the emotional connection is critical in most cases.

For some women, the ultimate fantasy is just spending time with the one they love. As one woman revealed, "I have the occasional naughty fantasies, but more than anything, I think about being curled up in his arms."

Sharing Your Fantasy

Very often, both partners in a relationship have fantasies they would like to share with their partners, but they don't reveal them. Fantasies evoke strong emotions and revealing them can make you vulnerable. Therefore, fantasies are usually kept private. To present your secret thoughts to someone can take courage.

It is easy and comfortable to assume that revealing your fantasies will not be appreciated by your partner. Although no one can read another person's mind, most people think their partner would not want to live out a fantasy with them.

Tell Your Partner What You Want

How to tell your partner about your romantic fantasies?

All you have to do is be clear about what you want and then tell your partner. Yes, this may sound easier to do than it is, but what do you have to lose? If you have someone who loves you, that person may be more eager to make you happy than you think.

Try This:
Write your fantasy down in one sentence. Have your partner write his or her fantasy down as well.
Now that you have written it down, you should be clear about what you want.
The next step is to share the fantasy with your partner. Go ahead, you will be surprised who easily fantasies can become reality!

Remember, your sensual and romantic thoughts can become reality if you share them with your love. Enjoy!

Sexy Panties

So ladies, what thoughts swirl through your mind as you choose your
undergarments for a day at work, a lazy afternoon at home, a night that
you’ll be spending with your sweetheart?

Is color or style more important?

Of course we all know that guys totally dig thongs. Plain as can
be or boasting all the bells and whistles of buttons, buckles and beads
- it really matters not. As long as they’re sexy, skintight and barely
there, you’re a shoe-in with your mate. Even though they aren’t always
the most comfortable skivvies in the world, thongs save our tails when
it comes to erasing panty lines.

“Granny panties,” a term popularized by some teen movie, sure
seem to take a lot of heat from males who get too spoiled by their
girlfriends’ selection of sexy unmentionables. If I’m not feeling well,
if I’m just bumming around the house, even if I’m just too darn lazy to
do wash, “normal” panties it is. I refuse to call them grannies. Don’t
get me wrong, I have an entire drawer full of underthings – mostly
thongs, bikinis and bras, but I appreciate the comfort of not wearing
them, too.

So we’ve been through the style sequence ... But what does your choice of color say about you?

Black: Sexiness, Seduction, Secretive or just plain "I want to get some tonight, baby!"

Red: Passionate, Romantic, Erotic... "I want to be romanced tonight...take my breath away, lover..."

Pink: Delicate, Flirty, Youthful... "You might get some, you might not... but I am yours tonight!"

White: Innocent, Virginal, Pure... "Be gentle with me, and I may have some fun with you!"

Blue: Bold, Strong, Mischievous… “I’m in control tonight, sexy” *wink*

Purple: Mysterious... "I like to keep you guessing…I’ll spring you when you least expect it!”

Orange: Playful... "Let's have some fun tonight!"

Green: Anything Goes... "No location is too risky for me!"

Leopard Print: "Rwar, I'm an animal, baby. Let's get wild!"

Secrets to Smooth, Sexy Legs

Many men can’t resist a sleek and sexy set of legs. From
short and sassy miniskirts boasting miles of gorgeous legs to long,
silky skirts subtly showing off beautiful legs through tasteful slits –
fashion is your friend when it comes to accentuating your wheels.

To emphasize your legs with very minor adaptations to your
normal cleansing and beauty routines, read on for a few quick tips to
bring out and maintain a sexy look for your legs.

Don’t rush when you shave. Nothing ruins a
super-close shave like nicks from a hurried shave. Hastily shaving your
legs may cause the razor to snag your skin and remove tiny chunks at a
time, especially around your knees, ankles and the thin areas of flesh
on your shins. To combat nicks from shaving too quickly, rinse away the
blood before exiting the shower, blot with a tissue or toilet paper and
apply a tiny corner of tissue to your wound. Allow it to dry the blood
and decide whether the cut necessitates a bandage.

Moisturize! Shine adds a whole new dimension to smooth
legs. A fragrant lotion creates softness and newly applied lotion
creates a nice glow that draws attention to your silky legs. See: Moisturizing Creams For Skin Types

Use a loofah pad to exfoliate and buff out imperfections.
Sometimes tiny blemishes caused by ingrown hairs or minor skin
conditions render legs to be not as smooth as they once were. By gently
exfoliating at least once or twice a week, your legs can be healthy,
soft and blemish-free with very little effort. If you aren’t sure what
a loofah pad looks like, visit the beauty aisle of your local
drugstore, supermarket or superstore. They typically have a
beige-colored surface on one side and a terrycloth type surface on the
other. These items usually only cost a dollar or two, and they’re well
    worth the investment!

Try a vitamin-rich body scrub. While exfoliating with
the loofah pad provides a great scrubbing motion, indulging in a
luxurious body scrub is as good for the senses and the spirit as it is
for the body. The nutrients contained in the scrub potion nourish the
skin and welcome healthier cells to replace the dead skin cells shed
through exfoliation. Don’t just scrub away old cells – promote new

Exercise! While the aesthetic elements mentioned above
will truly lend themselves to the overall condition of your legs, these
products and practices won’t do a thing for your muscle tone and body
mass. To keep your legs in swimsuit shape all year long, consider
engaging in regular exercise several times a week. Get into a good
habit of running, walking or jogging, bike riding, stair climbing or
doing simple exercises like leg-lifts. Even the smallest amount of
exercise can be beneficial to your body as you build your way up to
    longer routines.

Sometimes, legs may not be fat, but just look heavy, because of bad circulation. Put your legs and feet up.

Also, avoid standing for prolonged periods of time to reduce the appearance of varicose veins.

Bigger Breasts

Build Muscle to Boost Your Breasts

You’ve noticed that your breasts are sagging a little ... Simple strength training may give you the lift you long for. The alternative is breast implants

There is no avoiding it - gravity, that is. As you age, parts of your body seem to sag, and no place do women see it more than their breasts. All hope is not lost.
According to personal trainer Kim Albano from New York City’s Equinox fitness club, there are some easy exercises you can do to give your breasts the appearance of lift. "Breasts are fat, so you can’t firm the fatty tissue but underneath is muscle", she says. The pectoral muscles, to be specific, and they can be built up in a way that gives your breasts a higher, firmer look.

You can strengthen your pecs with four suggested exercises from Albano (see below). Choose three of the four and do them at least twice a week or three times to see results sooner. Albano stresses that these are just a start and encourages women to try different ones. “Everyone will respond differently to various exercises, so you have to find what is right for you,” she says. “And mix up your workout so your muscles don’t get bored, because then they stop developing.”

Start out with 1 set of 10 to 15 repetitions eventually building up to 3 sets of 10 to 15 repetitions using weights that make your muscles feel fatigued when you get to the end of each set. When the exercise becomes too easy, add more weight or another set.

Flat Chest Press

Lie faceup on a bench with a dumbbell in each hand, your wrists should be in a neutral position, palms facing forward, elbows bent 90 degrees and held out to the sides parallel with shoulders. Exhale as you extend your arms toward the ceiling with knuckles facing up, being careful not to touch the weights together, and squeezing your pectoral (chest) muscles at the top of the movement. Inhale as you return to starting position.

Lie facedown on the floor with your hands under you shoulders. Your feet should be about shoulder-width apart, with your toes tucked under so that you are balancing on the balls of your feet. Contract your abdominals so your back is parallel to the floor. Keep your head and neck in line with your spine. Inhale as you lower your chest as close to the floor as possible. Exhale as you return to starting position.

Incline Chest Press

This exercise is similar to the flat chest press, but you do it on a 45-degree incline, which will recruit different muscle fibers. Lie faceup on an incline bench with a dumbbell in each hand, palms facing forward, elbows bent 90 degrees and held out to the sides parallel with shoulders. Exhale as you extend your arms toward the ceiling with knuckles facing up, being careful not to touch the weights together, and squeezing your pectoral (chest) muscles at the top of the movement. Inhale as you return to starting position.

Cable Crossover

Stand in the center of a cable tower, feet hip-width apart, one foot slightly in front of the other. Grab the horseshoe handle of a cable at the top of each end of the machine in each hand, palms facing down and slightly forward, arms at shoulder level. Contract your abdominals, lean slightly forward from your hips, and relax your knees. Keeping a slight bend in your elbows, exhale as you pull the handles down in front of you until your hands come together, hold briefly. Inhale as you slowly return to starting position.

Pregnancy and Exercise

Pregnancy and Exercise - Starting a Program

Most women know that exercise is normally beneficial. But once pregnant, many women wonder about the safety of exercise to her and her baby. This is a particularly important issue for women that haven ever regularly exercised before becoming pregnant. This article is meant to be only a guideline and to encourage pregnant women to pursue an exercise program while pregnant. Of course, pregnant or not, everyone should consult their physician before starting an exercise program.

Benefits of Exercise to the Fetus
The jury is still out on the direct benefits to the baby. The best guide is that exercise is beneficial to the mother and, therefore, likely to be beneficial to the fetus for having a healthy mother. There are, however, a few studies that have shown some direct benefits to the fetus:
# Higher Apgar Scores - Some studies indicate that babies are stronger immediately following birth when the mother has regularly exercised.
# Bigger Healthier Babies - One study found that exercisers delivered babies who weighed around 5% more (and sometimes higher), than babies born to sedentary mothers.

Benefits of Exercise to the Mother
The benefits of exercise to healthy, pregnant women have been greatly documented. These include:
# Better managing the extra weight of pregnant with increased aerobic conditioning and stamina.
# Tolerating labor better both emotionally and physically.
# Increased muscular strength and endurance (for those who participate in a moderate strength training program)
# Decreased chances of unhealthy weight gain
# Quicker recovery from childbirth and quicker return to prepregnancy weight
# Reduced incidence of hemmoroids, varicose veins, backache, and fatigue

Risks of Exercise to the Fetus
# Joint and connective tissue injury.
# During pregnancy, the hormones loosen the ligaments and joints to allow easier delivery. Also, the extra weight or the breasts and uterus throw off center of gravity and balance. Therefore, women are discouraged from participating in any activities that are particularly jarring or have risk of falling. Some that should be avoided are in-line skating, bike riding, skiing, horseback riding.
# Scuba diving for reasons particular to that sport should also be completely avoided while pregnant.

Special Considerations
Even with all the benefits, there are occasionally times when exercise is not recommended. Following are three lists to guide you through making the decision that exercise may not be right for you.

Women with the following conditions should consult a physician before exercising:
# Hypertension (high blood pressure)
# Anemia or other blood disorders
# Food disorders
# Diabetes
# Palpitations or irregular heart rhythm
# Breech presentation in the last trimester
# Excessive obesity
# Extremely underweight
# Other medical complications or disease
# History of precipitous labor, (less than 3 hours), intrauterine growth retardation, bleeding during present pregnancy or an extremely sedentary lifestyle.

Women with the following conditions should NOT participate in exercise while pregnant:
# Heart disease
# Ruptured membranes
# Premature labor
# Faintness or dizziness
# Bleeding or a dignosis placenta previa
# Rapid heart rate or palpitations
# Difficulty walking

Guidelines for Exercising while Pregnant
Here you are. You've decided to exercise, your doctor agrees, and you want to be sure you do it right. Follow these rules and you will be strafing a very healthy life for you and your baby.
# Women who have been previously primarily sedentary should begin at a very low intensity and advance gradually.
# Exercising at least three times per week (spaced out over the week) is better than intermittent activity.
# Ballistic (jerky, bouncy) movements and deep flexion or extension of joints should all be avoided.
# Wear supportive bras and shoes to compensate for the extra weight.
# Drink water throughout exercise. Vigorous exercise should also not be performed in hot or humid weather or while you have a fever.
# Vigorous exercise should always be preceded by a ten minute warm up of cardiovascular exercise (like walking).
# Maternal heart rate should never exceed 140 beats per minute. The heart rate should be measured at the peak of activity.
# Strenuous exercise should last no longer than 15 minutes.
# Exercise should be followed by a 5 to 10 minute cool down. Care should be taken to gradually rise from the floor to avoid blood pooling in the limbs.
# Exercise should not be performed lying on the back after the fourth month of pregnancy is completed.
# Exercises employing the Valsava maneuver (holding breath) should be avoided.
# Be sure to eat enough to meet the extra needs of pregnancy and the extra needs of exercise.

If you have started to exercise, or decide to start, discuss this with your doctor, and you will be well on your way to a much healthier life-style.

Diet - Women

Women's Extra Nutritional Needs

A woman's reproductive life - encompassing menstruation, pregnancy, lactation and menopause - means that her nutritional needs differ greatly from those of a man. The popularity of crash dieting has meant that nutritional deficiencies are especially common amongst younger women. Good nutrition means eating a wide variety of foods every day, which isn't possible on a restrictive diet.

Food and premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
The interplay of hormones throughout a woman's menstrual cycle impacts on her body and state of mind. Energy intakes are generally higher in the premenstrual phase than after menstruation. Some women also experience food cravings as their period approaches. Eating high protein foods every few hours can often temper the cravings or stop them altogether. This should not be done at the expense of other food groups, especially carbohydrates, which should form the basis of the diet.

Fluid retention is common in the days leading up to a period because certain hormones encourage the body to hold salt, or sodium. The more sodium held, the more fluid retained in the tissues. Some research indicates that increasing the intake of calcium-rich foods, such as dairy products and leafy green vegetables, can ease fluid retention. Other common symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) include moodiness, tiredness and constipation.
Foods that may help to relieve the symptoms of PMS include:
# Fruits and vegetables
# Cereal foods (preferably wholegrain)
# Legumes
# Fish.

Limiting refined sugar, salt, red meat, animal fat, alcohol, caffeine and tobacco may also help to ease symptoms. There is some evidence that taking B group vitamins during this time can help, particularly vitamin B6. Light to moderate exercise, such as a 30 minute brisk walk each day, has also been shown to noticeably reduce symptoms of PMS.

Iron and anaemia
Iron is a mineral that works in conjunction with other substances to create haemoglobin, the compound that carries oxygen in the blood. Women and men metabolise iron from food at roughly the same rate. However, while men need around 7mg of iron in their daily diet, women need up to 16mg. This is to make up for the amount of iron they lose in their menstrual period, which averages around 1mg or so lost for every day of bleeding.

Iron deficiency is the most common nutrient deficiency that affects women. Insufficient iron can lead to anaemia, with common symptoms including tiredness and breathlessness. Iron deficiency in pregnant women increases the risk of prematurity, or delivering a low birth weight baby, which can have a negative impact on the short and long term health of the baby. Good sources of iron include liver, red meat, egg yolks, legumes, nuts and leafy green vegetables. Iron absorption can be impaired by very high fibre diets, alcohol and the tannic acid in tea.

Vitamins, minerals and pregnancy
The extraordinary demands on the female body during pregnancy can lead to nutritional deficiencies if the mother does not alter her diet. Pregnant women only need 300 kilocalories (kcal) more than non-pregnant women, which can be achieved by consuming just one extra serving from each of the five food groups daily. The most common deficiencies in pregnant women include:
# Calcium - calcium absorption more than doubles during pregnancy, and the mother stores most of this in her bones. The calcium stored in the mother's bones early in pregnancy is withdrawn to provide calcium to the foetus in later pregnancy. Increasing calcium intake during pregnancy helps to conserve the mother's bone mass, while meeting the needs of the foetus. Good sources include dairy products (milk, cheese and yoghurt).
# Folic acid - the recommended daily intake (RDI) for folic acid doubles during pregnancy. This is because folic acid is needed for the development and growth of new cells. Research suggests that insufficient folic acid at conception and in the first trimester of pregnancy can increase the risk of neural tube defects in the unborn baby. Good sources of folic acid include leafy green vegetables, poultry, eggs and cereals.
# Iron - although iron absorption increases during pregnancy, blood volume increases as well. Iron is involved in the process of oxygen transport. Enouth iron is drawn in by the developing foetus to last through the first five or six months after birth, when its only food is iron-poor breast milk. Iron supplements are frequently prescribed for pregnant women, especially during the third trimester. Iron-rich foods include liver, red meat, egg yolks and leafy green vegetables.
# Zinc - needed to maintain the health of cells. Taking iron supplements may interfere with the absorption of zinc, so women taking iron supplements may also need zinc supplements. Foods high in zinc include meat, liver, eggs and seafood. Leavened wholegrain products can also be helpful (yeast helps release the bound zinc).

Deficiencies during lactation
Nutrient requirements generally increase during lactation (500kcal) than in pregnancy (300kcal). The nutrients that are particularly important during this time are protein, calcium, vitamin C, folate, zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6 and fluids. Women who are breastfeeding can develop calcium and iron deficiencies. This can be addressed by increasing the amounts of calcium and iron rich foods eaten every day or, if necessary, taking supplements.

Calcium and osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disorder characterised by a thinning of the bones until they are weak and easily fractured or broken. Women are at greater risk of developing osteoporosis than men, particularly after menopause, because oestrogen levels are reduced. There are many factors involved, for example:
# Low calcium intake during the growing years increases the susceptibility to osteoporosis later in life. Poor calcium intake early in life is also linked to deficiencies of vitamin D, calcium and possibly fluoride. Scientists agree that bone strength in later life depends on the development of bones earlier in life, and that adequate calcium intake during youth is essential to achieve peak bone mass.
# Diet and exercise are also important. The sex hormones (in particular oestrogen), exercise, smoking, and what we eat and drink can all affect calcium absorption and excretion. Salt, caffeine and alcohol interfere with the balance of calcium through urinary losses and should be consumed sparingly.
# Crash dieting has been associated with the development of osteoporosis due to the tendency to cut out dairy foods.
# Animal protein, eaten in large amounts, also increases urinary calcium loss - a major contributor to calcium balance. This does not occur with plant protein.

Vitamin D and calcium
Vitamin D increases calcium absorption and is required for normal bone metabolism. There are a few food sources of vitamin D; they include: fish, eggs and liver. Good sources of calcium include dairy foods, calcium-fortified soymilk and sesame seeds. However, for the women who cannot consume these foods, calcium supplements may be desirable.

Things to remember
# Iron and calcium deficiencies are common in women.
# Vitamin B6 can help ease the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
# Foods like tea, alcohol, caffeine and salt can interfere with the absorption and excretion of important minerals.

Folic Acid

Young Women Need Folic Acid Every Day

If you are a female, and are of child bearing age, what is the one vitamin that you should be getting everyday? Any guesses? Hereґs a hint: you should be getting about 400 micrograms per day. Still canґt guess? This vitamin has been shown to significantly reduce neural tube defects in newborn children.

Have you heard of folic acid?

In spite of its increasing visibility in the medical / health literature, too many young women still donґt know about the dangers of having too little folic acid in their diet. In a recent survey carried out jointly by the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, only about 13% of respondents knew that folic acid was effective in preventing birth defects. Even more disturbing was the finding that only about 7% of the women polled knew that folic acid needs to be taken before pregnancy starts.

Common Birth Defects Prevented by Proper Folic Acid Intake Before Pregnancy:
# Spina bifida, the most common of the neural tube defects (NTD's), is one of the most devastating of all birth defects. It occurs when the spine fails to close properly during the first month of pregnancy.
# Anencephaly results from the failure of the neural tube to close properly at the upper end, causing a fatal condition in which most of the brain is absent.

Breastfeeding and Diet

Breastfeeding - A Healthy Diet Is Very Important

It is important that your diet replaces the nutrients that are used up during breastfeeding, such as protein, calcium, iron and vitamins. There is no evidence that certain foods upset the baby or give them diarrhoea or colic. Limit your intake of alcohol to one to two glasses per day.

Preventing rapid weight loss
Breastfeeding burns up a lot of energy (kilojoules). Some of the energy will come from the fat you laid down in pregnancy. However, some women will need to eat extra snacks to prevent rapid weight loss. Use your weight and appetite to work out your energy needs.

What snacks to choose
Ideal snacks for helping to prevent rapid weight loss include:
# Sandwiches
# Milk drinks
# Cereal with milk
# Fruit
# Yoghurt.

If you are having trouble getting back in shape
Although breastfeeding uses up a lot of energy, some women have a problem with extra weight. Tips for losing weight include:
# Grill, steam, bake or casserole lean meat, fish and poultry
# Use butter and margarine sparingly
# Avoid high fat foods such as chips, rich desserts or greasy takeaways
# Limit your intake of sugary foods such as soft drinks, cakes and lollies
# Exercise - for example, push the pram around the block. Build up to between 30 and 40 minutes three to four times per week.

Don't go on a strict diet
Strict diets and skipping meals are not recommended because you could miss out on vital nutrients.

Meeting your daily nutrient requirements
Protein Breast milk contains a lot of protein. So, you will need to include extra protein in your diet, from foods such as:
# Meat, fish and chicken
# Eggs
# Cheese and yoghurt
# Nuts and legumes, for example, lentils, baked beans and split peas.

Calcium Calcium is another major ingredient in breast milk. You will need extra calcium from:
# Dairy products such as milk, cheese and yoghurt. These are the best source of calcium.
# Soymilk fortified with calcium - look for a brand which includes around 120mg calcium per 100mls soymilk.

If your diet does not contain plenty of calcium, your body will use calcium from your bones to meet your increased needs. This weakens your bones and increases the risk that you will develop osteoporosis later in life.

Iron Pregnancy uses up your iron stores. During breastfeeding, you need to rebuild your iron stores with iron rich foods:
# Liver, red meat, chicken and fish are the richest sources of iron
# Legumes - for example, baked beans
# Nuts and dried fruit
# Wholegrain bread and cereals
# Green leafy vegetables.

Folate and vitamins Breastfeeding also increases your need for:
# Folate - for example, leafy green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, cabbage and brussels sprouts.
# Vitamin C - for example, citrus fruits, berries, tropical fruit, tomatoes, capsicum and potatoes.
# Vitamin A - for example, dark green and yellow vegetables such as broccoli, carrots and pumpkin.

Vegetarian mothers
A vegetarian diet can meet the nutritional needs of a breastfeeding mother as long as it includes a variety of foods, including:
# Legumes
# Eggs, milk, cheese and yoghurt
# Wholegrain breads and cereals
# Fresh fruit and vegetables.

Check with your dietitian to make sure your diet contains the right amount of kilojoules and nutrients.

Where to get help
# Your doctor
# Maternal and Child Health centre
# Lactation consultant

Things to remember
# It's important to eat a diet rich in protein, iron, calcium and vitamins while you are breastfeeding.
# If you want to lose weight, do it gradually. Don't go on a 'crash' diet

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is one of the oldest and most common afflictions known to women and, secondarily, to men. "When my wife has PMS, she's not the only one who suffers!" For most women, symptoms are usually mild -- fatigue, irritability, anxiety and bloating. But for some, PMS is not mild, it's debilitating -- causing severe depression, panic attacks, and even violent behavior.

Advice in the past has been less than helpful because of the large range of symptoms of a nonspecific nature. Physicians have prescribed progesterone to alleviate symptoms, but double-blind studies by the NIH show that the hormone is no better than a placebo. Over-the-counter drugs are also of little value.

So, what does work?

The one remedy that seems to help is exercise. When women do moderate exercise five times a week for at least 30 minutes a session, their symptoms are significantly reduced. Because long, steady exercise causes a release of endorphins, it makes sense to keep the level "pumped up," so to speak, during the last two weeks of the cycle. Continuous production of endorphins appears to diminish the PMS symptoms.

Eat small frequent meals:
It's been shown that occasional small sugar snacks are effective in relieving the milder symptoms. To avoid fluctuations in blood sugar levels, don't skip meals. Eat small frequent meals instead. Eat the same amount of food you normally would, but spread it out. Have three small meals and mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks.

Limit simple sugars and include fiber:
It is better to limit simple sugars than to try to avoid them. It's okay to have some sugar, but don't have it on an empty stomach, for that could trigger a binge. Instead, have a dessert with your meal. It sounds strange, but it's better to eat dessert during the middle of a meal than at the end. Having something sweet at the end of a meal may lead you to want more sugar. If you eat the sweet mid meal, the craving is satisfied. Be sure to include fiber and protein with each meal to slow the digestion and absorption of the sugar.

Limit caffeine and alcohol:
Some women experience alcohol intolerance during the last two weeks of their cycle; they show signs of intoxication with only two drinks when it usually takes five or six to produce the same effects.

Reduce sodium:
Finally, sodium is not as big an issue as it once was, but if you're bothered by fluid retention and breast swelling or tenderness, then limit your sodium and avoid adding salt.

Beautiful Hairstyles

When choosing your hairstyle, remember that you'll have a much easier
time if you choose a style that lets hair do what it wants

Fine Hair has the appearance of softness, which can be very
feminine and appealing. However, if you want it to look thicker, you
should have it layered slightly. A soft body wave adds fullness and
hair coloring can also give more body and make it look thicker.

Course Hair has an overall heavy look - one that makes a
statement. Cut is very important and a haircut that shapes the face
will also help control the hair. Coloring will soften the texture by
filling in and smoothing out the cuticle.

Straight Hair can be thick or thin but when in perfect,
shiny condition, it gives the impression of a shimmering sheet of hair.
A straight, blunt cut to the length you decide is best. A body wave
will create movement and curlers will help add height.

Curly Hair is perhaps the most versatile. You can
blow-dry it straight, use rollers of various sizes to adjust the
natural curls, or let it go soft and curly on its own.
